Conor Gallagher opened the scoring for Chelsea early on, getting onto the end of a deflected Malo Gusto pull-back to fire past Andre Onana before Cole Palmer doubled Chelsea's lead from the spot. Man United mounted an impressive comeback before half-time, with Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes firing the Reds back into the game. It was the Red Devils that took the lead in the second half, and led until 90+10, when Noni Madueke was brought down and Palmer added a second.
